Each patient will have their skin assessed and analysed with a camera attached to a Wood’s Light to determine the extent and depth of pigmentation. Only with a detailed analysis, Dr Phua would diagnose whether Cosmelan Depigmentation is ideal for one’s pigmentation or uneven skin tone.

Cosmelan Depigmentation is a medical grade cosmeceutical peel programme that has taken Hollywood by storm for its efficacy and long lasting results, that only physicians can prescribe and dispense. Based on the inhibition of an enzyme that causes the formation of melanin (tyrosine), Cosmelan consists of a mixture of skin-friendly acids and antioxidants that aid to gently exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin, reducing the pigment blemishes. It acts rapidly, with transient peeling and mild pinkness, unlike the more traditional harsh acid peels.

Cosmelan 1 – the first step in the treatment where a medical grade treatment mask is applied after degreasing and cleansing the face. The mask is left on for 7-10 hours, depending on patient’s skin sensitivity. Patient washes off the mask at home.

Cosmelan 2 and Hydra Vital Factor K – this consists of the second step of the treatment. These homecare creams further potentiate and enhance the lightening process daily which one would apply daily and in the evening.

On days 2-7, you will notice some mild redness of the skin, during which you are advised to use topical and oral sunblock to protect your skin against further pigmentation. This is mild and does not restrict you from resuming your normal daily activities. From days 5-7 onwards, you will notice a lightening effect of your skin, and that should continue to improve with time. You are required to apply sunblock during the daytime on top of the treatment creams. As each person’s skin sensitivity varies, Dr Phua will tailer the treatment according to your skin type.
